Please note: only the courageous need apply!

Alma Studios specialises in acting classes for both stage and screen.

Along side regular classes Alma Studios hold courses which usually comprise of the students putting a show on in a week! Courses are generally held during the February half term, Summer holidays and the October half term. They are extremely fun for everyone involved!

27th—31st July (week 1) and
3rd—7th August (week 2)

So, you are considering coming to our Summer Course? This is how it works!

Day one (Monday) – We spend a morning connecting with each other. In the afternoon we look at the topic and the text for the week. This is always an original piece of work specifically designed and created for those who are in attendance. This is to ensure that the experience is an ensemble one, maturity and experience as well as beginners are catered for. There are no favourites at Alma Studios, everyone is a star!

Day two (Tuesday) – We spend the morning reading through the play followed by an exploration of skills that will be needed in the final piece. In the afternoon we start blocking the first act of the play. Obviously there are regular breaks, largely so everyone can count their lines and make the team sweat!

Day three (Wednesday) – Eyes down! The aim to get the play totally blocked, all except the bow which are a show in themselves (!), is on!

Day four (Thursday) – Bows and run through…..and if everything is done and looks good it is time for…. THE WATER FIGHT!!!!! Regardless of the weather we take no prisoners! Everyone stays late on Thursday night so that we can clear up, enjoy fish and chips and have fun turning the space into the theatre for the next day!

Day five (Friday) – SHOW DAY! Finishing, polishing, hair & make up, dealing with last minute nerves, lighting & sound and then 18.30 SHOW TIME! Parents, friends and family are all welcome to enjoy and watch everything we have been up to all week! 19.30 time to finish off the refreshments, hug and say goodbye, last minute selfies etc – JOB DONE!

Testimony from Bernie Owtrum:

“I live in Scotland but come and visit my Grandma every summer holidays in Surrey, in the summer of 2004 my Grandmother enrolled me for a week of summer course at Alma Studios (Angels Theatre School).

Summer Course 2015 will mark my eleventh year of involvement. The annual summer course has represented a huge part of my childhood, it is beyond enjoyable! Producing a play to the standard that the Alma Studio Team facilitate, in what is effectively five days, is incredibly challenging but you barely even notice because in all that productivity is the most enormous spontaneity! Parties at lunch, water fights and all manner of surprises! The amount I have learnt about the performing arts during my time with Alma never ceases to amaze me and my family. In addition I have gained self confidence and friends I am convinced will last a life time… Should you come this year I look forward to meeting you!”

This years Summer Course is an epic adventure, taster below…

The White Well of Blugrasidbelle

A war raged for a thousand years, the greedy kings of Blugradisbelle fought with their allies, the Kings of Direnestfar. Not content with their own fertile lands they sought to enslave the people of the Airehki, a strange mysterious race who live in the cold dark south, known to have magic and to share a deep bond with Cinnaraywah, she who is Goddess, sister to the twin moons, governess of all the ocean, keeper of the rain and clouds, mistress of lochs, lakes and rivers.

Cinnaraywah watched in silence for centuries her tears adding to the rain until on one terrible day an Airehki infant lay dying, the victim of a stray arrow. As his mother sat cradling her boy, she to was struck. This lack of respect for a mothers grief enraged Cinnaraywah, the oceans rose and as her heart split in two, her curse rent the air,

“From this day forward the water of the Great White Well of Blugrasidbelle and the Black Well of Direnestfar shall be cursed.  For every cup that is supped in safety the second maybe poisoned, in punishment for the great cruelty that you have seen fit to inflict on my gentle Airehki. I curse you to live in constant fear for your life and the lives of those you love”

One hundred years passed and the curse holds fast. The last King of Blugrasidbelle lies dying, there is no male heir, only his daughter Princess Merrishone.

Meanwhile in Direnestfar, the young King waits and watches, his plan to seize power in Blugrasidbelle, power he is prepared to seize by force is necessary.

Cinnaraywah sighs and fears another hundred years of war but Princess Merrishone has a different idea. She seeks a way to begin again, Merrishone will undertake a quest to rid the White Well of its curse.

The quest begins this summer, the following cast are sought: Princesses, pirates, rogues, vagabonds, professors, street-fighters, gypsies, heroes, priests, villains, Gods and heaven forbid some travelling actors!
