October Half Term Course

This October half term we are running a workshop where we will be rehearsing, producing and putting on a play in a week.

Psyche: In art we find us.

Imagine a school where, on arrival, you are deemed the potential artist of a generation; writers, poets, musicians, dancers, animators and actors, sculptors and artists. Imagine the enjoyment, excitement, the conversation, the friendships, the fear, the pressure, the good and bad choices.

And what if the part of you that was always with you, all the way through, that bright spark at the centre of your creativity, wasn’t inside you, but stood beside you? And walked with you, supporting you, questioning you, laughing with you, despairing with you, as you find your way to your unique expression in art?

Psyche, a breathtaking new piece of original theatre from Alma Studios.

Rock music, dance, stand up comedy, actors, finding itself at the fold between rap and musical theatre. Theatrical camaraderie and discussion between artists, musicians and philosophers, between young people and their inner child, which we all have, but sometimes lose or forget about.

Our approach is one rooted in classical acting and the needs of the individual. Our students are exposed to acting, writing, directing and producing for stage and screen.

If you or your child would like to learn more about the October Half Term Course then email us at tracey@wordpress-191066-567111.cloudwaysapps.com for dates and prices, or if you would like to speak to the team personally then please call us on 01483 860972.

STORYTELLING AFTERNOON

STORYTELLING AFTERNOON

WE WOULD LOVE TO INVITE YOU TO JOIN US ON THE 10TH MAY FOR AN AFTERNOON OF STORYTELLING

This magical afternoon has been planned as a fundraiser for The Squeaky Door Production Company and is the brain child of Sam Hampshire, a 14 year old student at Alma Studios. On this occasion it is the youngest membership of our school and their friends and siblings that will be the focus. Join us on the 10th May at 16.00 at Busbridge Village Hall for a two act presentation, the interval will be a thoroughly pleasant affair, punctuated by hot chocolate and marshmallows and on offer will be an interesting and highly enjoyable selection of stories and poems for the young and the young at heart! Can you live without finding out about the diary of a wombat? What was found at the back of the wardrobe? And why is Tracey in the loft looking for some very strange costumes? If you don’t come, you will never find out!

£3 per guest (to pay on the door)

ALL WELCOME—BRING YOUR FRIENDS

MUCH LOVE

We Shall Not Sleep

Tracey Linegar

Hello everyone!

Please could all the cast members of We Shall Not Sleep be made aware of this email.

Everything is coming together beautifully for the week commencing on Monday 27th October, please find attached a full copy of the script, may I ask that all of the cast make themselves familiar with it over the coming week and to save time and cost could everyone involved print off the pages in which they appear I want to have some budget for our set. Full running orders will be at every entrance and exit, you will all be able to understand the flow of scenes, please note that everyone is involved in the dream sequence, the reason there is no script for this scene is because it is going to be a stylized/improvised scene. I do hope everyone enjoys reading the piece and that everyone is pleased with their part.

Parents, there are three isolated incidents where three individual swear words are used. As always i will take time to explain to the children why we have used this vocabulary and that it is important that when we as actors use vocabulary that is not deemed appropriate for everyday life it must stay within the piece of work and within the space. This is a serious peace and these 3 words have been chosen carefully to precisely heighten key moments within the text.

I can’t wait to see everybody on Monday, remember you can be in attendance from 9.30 but the working day will not start ’til 10, the working day will end at 5 but we will be at the hall until 6 cleaning, should anyone be stuck in traffic please be aware that we will only stay at the hall until 6.15, at this point your children will be abducted to Alma and you can collect them from there. This is to prevent my children from being taken into care by the social services; and to insure that I have time to prepare for the following day but please don’t worry, the kids will be made very welcome. Finally we will be offering a small sandwich making facility, a sandwich will be £1.50 and the students can pick two or three fillings, we will also be offering a reasonable/sensible tuck shop in case you find yourself rushed in the morning, if you don’t wish to use this facility please provide sufficient food for the day and if you do, send them in with a couple of quid.

All the team at Alma would like to thank Olivia Owen, Georgia Fincken, Kieran Long, Hugo Edgerton and Sam Hampshire for all the support, time effort and creative energy; they have contributed over the last fortnight to ensure that this project is one to remember!

Lots of love
